Since there were only two entries (Libbie and Jennifer) in the haiku section of the contest, we decided to award them both a skein of sock yarn.  Deciding the photo contest was much tougher, so that went to random-generator (e.g., husband picked a number), and Petra is the winner!

i'm back!

I know, you probably didn't even notice I was gone. Or maybe you did. Whatever. After a great weekend at SAFF, I'm back and ready to roll. The weekend has come and gone, and that means we have a WINNAH in the random weekly giveaway:

And perhaps, more importantly, I came home to find my mailbox stuffed to the gills with packages! Y'all rock, you know that? Headed for the post office is a box for Maggie with warm wishes from Jennifer, Miri, and Georgie. Great work, ladies!

I'm a bit grinchy about Halloween, but I may make an exception this year… stay tuned!

Wound Too Tight

On Friday I cast on for my socks for Maggie using yarn I dyed with Scout when she taught me how to make self-striping yarn. I named the colorway Wound Too Tight, and you can click on the name to read the story about the name.

The colors are BRIGHT!  One of the pleasures of self-striping yarn is that I want to knit until the end of each color instead of just a round, so I'm getting more done.  These are going super fast--I should have them done by the end of the month, no problem (knocks on wood).

By the way, contest winners are under discussion.  Results and packages in the mail this week!

My Monkey socks are finished....

I used the Monkey pattern from Knitty - love this pattern!  The yarn is Trekking XXL.   

I will be sending these out on Monday - and I hope Maggie enjoys wearing them!

The Crazy socks are finished! I think they might be bright enough to scare away a doctor or two.
The pattern is Oak Ribbed socks from Nancy Bush's Knitting Vintage socks and the yarn is Opal Crazy color 1602.

Tomorrow I will put all three pairs into the wash for a little soaking and then I will send them off. This has been fun and I hope Maggie will enjoy the socks.

Did we get a winner in the haiku yet? I actually snorted when I read some of them. Veeery clever. I'm lovin' the socks that are being done, and if you haven't scoped the Flickr site, you're totally missing out.

(Ok, when did I start talking like the college sophomore circa 1987 again?)

Keep up the good work, y'all. I can personally report progress as I have turned a heel and have headed for home. I can also report the arrival of two more pairs at the hacienda this afternoon, ready to be sent northward! Thank you Emily and Jamie! (You must check out the Halloween post. Nice… er… cleavage.)

Here's my yarn!

I've been saving up leftover sock yarn for ages now and saying I'm going to make a pair of stripy socks - what better for Maggie?  I have more than this, but this is a selection of what could end up in Maggie's socks.

So what do the rest of you think - should I just grab randomly and make matching yet random socks or should I use different colors in each sock?

Luckily I thought to organize my leftover yarn by machine washable/ not washable so I know that the yarns I pick will have complimentary care instructions.

Hope she really likes crazy socks!
