The morons of the world, that is. As irritating as it is to hear the incessant stream of noise that comes out when they open their mouths, it's best to let them keep talking.
This lets them "out" themselves.
I'm not a particular fan of actors, musicians, or the cult of celebrity in general. I might page through People or something in that vein while waiting in the salon or the doctor's office, but I don't "worship" someone because they appeared on teevee or in a movie, or managed to get a bit of radio airplay. I don't believe that being famous automatically confers some great insight or wisdom upon a person. Thus, it always surprises me when a celebrity makes a statement and normal Joe Sixpack confesses great disappointment in that celebrity.
The latest source of disappointment to the great unwashed is Morgan Freeman. Good work in a lot of movies, I suppose, but raving ignoramus all the same.
In a appearance on the Piers Morgan show (proof that anyone can get a talk show these days), Mr. Freeman was asked whether the Obama presidency has made racism better or not. Apparently, it's simply made some folks more racist.
"Made it worse. Made it worse," Freeman replied. "The tea partiers who are controlling Republican party… their stated policy, publicly stated, is to do whatever it takes to see that Obama only serves one term. What underlines that? Screw the country. We're going to do whatever we can to get this black man out of here."
Like I said, let 'em keep talking.
The economy is in the toilet; the nation's credit is around a 350; our allies don't trust us anymore; our enemies see us as a weak; we aren't allowed to produce our own energy and every day we're given another example of how out of touch with reality this administration is. Yet all that Mr. Freeman is seeing is race.
Race only matters to people who have no other leg to stand on. It does matter when your fragile little ideology has been patently shown to be wrong, and you personally can't handle rejection, so you cling to whatever crutch you have in a futile attempt to give yourself some power – any power.
I don't care whether you're black, white, red, blue, purple, polka-dotted or plaid. If you're a narcissistic, incompetent idiot then it's eventually going to show through, regardless of the color of your external covering.
If the leader of the free world espouses and implements ineffective, divisive economic and foreign policy then he's a disgrace and should be limited to the minimum number of weeks in office that the law allows. That's what the end result was for the last man to hold the dubious distinction of "worst president ever."
Who, by the way, was a white man.
You want to talk about race issues that Mr. Freeman should be concerned with? The black male population is sporting a collective unemployment rate of nearly 40%. Is he doing anything about it? Is his precious Lightbringer doing anything about that – specifically or otherwise?
No, he's not. Instead, the Anointed One is going to speak to the Congressional Black Caucus, rattling chains and pounding fists like his mentor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and telling them to "put on their marching shoes."
You want to know what I think of that? I think he's playing the race card. I think he's deliberately fomenting discontent. I think he's trying to prop himself up by deflecting attention from what he hasn't done by making more promises about what he might do. I think he's deliberately, potentially inciting violence, or at least laying the foundations for such so that when there are issues – pre or post-election – he can say, "I told you so."
And morons like Morgan Freeman are falling right into his hand, licking this up. And showing their crass ignorance in the process.
In this case, it's worse, because it's deliberate ignorance.
The TEA Party is a grassroots movement started and powered by ordinary Americans: black, white, red, and otherwise. It's a reaction to the abuse of power and disastrous policies implemented by our elected officials. It is not a racist organization, a religious organization, or anything it has been depicted as by those who oppose it.
What it does do is expose the lies and show that not all the American electorate are sheep who blindly follow and believe what the media and the celebrity culture try to feed them. Educated people understand this and respond positively to its mission.
Uneducated and deliberately ignorant people – most of whom worship at the altar of celebrity or are somehow indebted to it – understand only that this is somehow a threat to their "power," because that's what they're told. Because they have neither the ability nor the desire to find out the truth, they persist in believing the lies.
When you define yourself by only one quality, you have no ability to comprehend any other, nor the ability to recognize any in others. Your view of the world is one-dimensional. Apparently this is the case with our misguided actor friend. In his world, there is only race. His is good, all others are not, and though he may attempt to give another impression to the world in general, this is testament only to his acting skill. When he is off script, the veil drops and we see him for what he really is: a racist idiot who clings to his bitterness in an attempt to avoid reality.
Sad, really, but when they persist in fighting a battle of "us vs. them," I'd rather know who my enemies are.

* Let's not harp on the point that he can't even cite his sources properly. What Mr. Freeman attributes to the TEA Party was actually a quote from Sen. Mitch McConnell, and he's a Republican, not a TEA party member. And I find it very believable that the GOP wants Obama to be a one-term president, for reasons of politics, not race.
** Let's also conveniently forget that a black man won the Florida straw poll last week. The Republican straw poll. His second win. Fortunately, he's not offended by Mr. Freeman's ignorance.
